Why do we always tend to stay with preconceived notions when it comes to any of the below categories?

Evolution-Age of the Earth-Creationism-Christianity-Beginning of the universe-human origins-the Bible-Jesus-God-and any number of other subjects. We could at least look at the evidence that supports the others side. I always try to have an open mind when I am approached by someone about a subject and base my opinion on which ever side seems more logical, and that is the side that I go with. For example: The universe just exploded out of nothing or it had a Creator. For me the more logical answer would be it had a Creator, because how does nothing explode? And how can you state for sure which is correct for none of us was there. That's like saying that all squirrels have bushy tails, which would show that you have seen all the squirrels that ever was, ever will be, and are. For you to see this you would have to be a god yourself.
