Are real black pearls very rare?

I have a real black pearl that I picked out from an actual oyster. When I went by a pearl jeweler today, the lady was shocked to see I had a black pearl. She said they were very rare since most of the black pearls people see are fake and bleached that color. About how much is one black pearl worth?
