How do you stop caring about fashion?

Expressing myself by means of fashion is absurd because all I am doing is putting things made by other people together. I have much better means of self expression, such as poetry for one. Still, my mind was trained to like fashion and I am having a hard time liberating myself from it I will continue to have materialism in my mind. I already am very non-consumerist because I don't care about trends or brand and I buy almost all my clothing from thrift stores but I need to be even less so because I want to stop having urges to buy makeup and hair stuff. I need to teach myself to dress completely practically and not spend. Any ideas?
